| Bone Imaging:
Performed for a variety of reasons from evaluating bone pain to detection of primary and
staging metastatic disease. You will need to wait 2 to 3 hours following a small injection
for the tracer to localize in your bones. The imaging procedure will last approximately 30
to 45 minutes. No prep is required. 3 Phase Bone:
Performed to check for initial blood flow and to help evaluate infection. Imaging of the
bones will be performed 2 to 3 hours following the injection and last approximately 30 to
45 minutes. No prep is required.
Bone
Spect: Performed for a more detailed evaluation of a specific
area, usually lower lumbar or pelvis. The imaging procedure will last approximately 30 to
45 minutes. No prep is required.
Cardiac
- Resting MUGA (Multigated Acquisition):
Performed to evaluate the function of the left ventricle. The procedure will take
approximately 1 to 1-1/2 hours. No prep is required.
Cardiac - Resting Thallium: Performed to
assess viability of heart. The procedure takes approximately 1 hour. No prep is required.
Ceretec Labelled White Cell: Performed
for various reasons including detection and localization of acute and chronic
Osteomyelitis as well as acute abscesses. It will require 3 visits to the facility all in
the same day. Please call our office at (732) 493-8444 for further details on this
procedure.
Gallbladder:
Performed to evaluate inflammation of gallbladder as well as cystic and common bile
ducts. Also used to demonstrate a leak in patients whose gallbladder has been recently
removed. This procedure may last from 1 to 4 hours. Do not eat anything within 4 hours
before test. Water is okay.
Gallbladder
with CCK: Performed to evaluate the function of the gallbladder.
Most common diagnosis are Acalculus Cholecystitis or Bilary Dyskinesia. A normal
ultrasound or CT of the gallbladder is required within 6 months of this procedure.
Procedure time is approximately 2 hours. Do not eat anything within 4 hours before test.
Gallium:
Performed to localize soft tissue infection. The procedure requires 2 visits. The
first visit is to receive the injection and the second visit is 48 hours later for
imaging. Imaging takes approximately 1 to 1-1/2 hours. No prep is required.
Gastric
Emptying: Performed to measure emptying time of the stomach in
patients being evaluated for weight loss, Gastroparesis, nausea among other indications.
The procedure lasts about 2-1/2 hours and involves eating a radioactive scrambled egg
sandwich. Patient must not eat anything at least 4 hours before procedure.
Indium Labelled White Cell: See Ceretec Labelled White Cell for details. Three
visits are required two visits the first day and one the following day. Please call
our office at (732) 493-8444 for further details on this procedure.
Liver
Spleen: Performed to assess the anatomy (size and shape)
of liver, assess chronic liver and spleen disease, evaluation of liver infection. The
procedure takes approximately 45 minutes and no prep is required.
Liver
Spect: Performed to detect and localize liver hemangiomas
as well as cysts or space-occupying lesions. Total time for this procedure is 2-1/2 hours
(includes 1-1/2 hours for tracer to circulate). No prep is required. A CT or ultrasound
would be necessary.
Lung
Perfusion: Performed to evaluate chest pain and aid in diagnosis
of pulmonary embolism. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes and there is no prep
required. A recent chest x-ray is necessary.
Meckels:
Performed to localize a Meckels Diverticulum or evaluate abdominal pain. Do
not eat 4 hours before this procedure.
Melanoma
Imaging: Please call us at (732) 493-8444 for explanation and
information on this procedure.
Octreoscan
(Octreotide): This procedure is performed to detect and localize certain specific
tumors such as pheochromocytomas, pancreatic tumors, paragangliomas and neuroblastomas.
Generally the procedure will last from 2 to 3 days with several days of imaging. You will
also need to be injected with a tracer which will allow us to take the images. You will be
asked to drink plenty of fluids during the procedure. The imaging will take approximately
1-1/2 hours. You may eat and drink prior to and during this procedure.
Parathyroid:
Performed to identify Adenoma. The procedure takes approximately 2-1/2 hours. You
may need to go off thyroid medication.
Renal:
There are several kinds of renal scans. All take approximately 45 minutes to 1
hour. No prep is required for renal procedures except Captropril.
Renal with Flow meansures
perfusion and function.
Renal with GFR measures
filtration rate.
Renal with Lasix is
performed to evaluate obstructive uropathy.
Renal with Captropril is
performed to evaluate renal blood flow. Do not eat 4 hours prior to procedure. Imaging
will begin 1 hour after Captropril is taken by mouth and you must bring the Captropril
with you.
Sentinal
Node Imaging: Please call us at (732) 493-8444 for explanation
and information on this procedure.
Thyroid
Scan: This procedure will demonstrate the size and shape of the
thyroid. You will be injected with a tracer that will allow the camera to see the trapping
function of the thyroid. This procedure is usually performed in conjunction with the Thyroid Uptake test. Since the thyroid is a very complicated
organ, certain medications or x-rays may interfere. Consult your physician or contact us for additional information. You may eat and drink for
this procedure.
Thyroid
Uptake: This procedure is performed to evaluate the
organification of iodide by the thyroid and is used to determine if the thyroid is
overactive (hyperthyroidism), underactive (hypothyroidism) or normal (euthyroid). This
procedure is usually performed in conjunction with the Thyroid
Scan. Together this is a 2 day procedure with the first day taking about 15 minutes (a
capsule is administered), and the second day taking approximately 1-1/2 hours. Check with
your physician about certain medications/x-rays that may interfere or contact us for additional information. You may eat and drink prior
for this procedure.
Thyroid Hyperthyroid Therapy:
This procedure is performed after a Thyroid Uptake
and Thyroid Scan has provided the information required for the
specific treatment dosage. This procedure is used to treat hyperthyroidism, Graves
Disease, toxic nodular goiter plus other various thyroid diseases. Many times blood work
will need to be performed prior to any therapy. Strict rules and guidelines must be
followed. Treatment takes approximately 15 minutes which is nothing more than swallowing a
capsule, but a follow-up with your physician may be necessary. No prep is required.
Thyroid
Ablation: This procedure is performed on patients who had
thyroid cancer and a total thyroidectomy. This treatment is used to destroy and residual
functioning thyroid tissue. Strict rules and guidelines must be followed. Treatment takes
approximately 15 minutes which involves taking a capsule. A follow-up Total Body Iodine Scan will be necessary 2 weeks
following the treatment. No prep is required.
Total
Body Iodine Scan: This procedure is performed to localize and
evaluate metastasizing or recurrent thyroid carcinoma. Patient must have had a total
thyroidectomy prior to this test. There are a few preps required such as discontinuing
thyroid medications and being on a low-iodine diet. The procedure is usually performed 6
months to 1 year after surgery or therapy. This is a 2 day protocol with a capsule given
on the first day (a 20 minute visit) and returning 3 days later for imaging. The imaging
procedure will last approximately 1-1/2 hours. Any questions about medications should be
referred to your physician. Please call us at (732) 493-8444 for information about
scheduling and procedural information.
